On top of the nearby mountain Auerberg (579m) is located largest double cross of the world, the Josephskreuz. More than 100.000 rivets hold the iron construction. Having climbed the 200 steps to the observation platform (38m high) you have a marvellous view of the "Brocken" (highest mountain of Harz) in that case that the weather is good enough. (5km)
 
With a length of 2000m the Heimkehle is one of the largest and most impressing karst caves of Germany. The discovery of this cave is possible only by guided tours (45 min.).(9km)
 
The highest mountain of Harz is Brocken (1142m high). Many fables, especially those about the witches' sabbath, tell about this mythical place. So on hike to this mountain or use the Harzquerbahn (historical railroad).(45km)
 
The Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen is largest collection of roses in the world. 6000 sorts of roses are on view on the exhibition area (16 hectare).
 
The most excellent exhibit of Spenglermuseum is the complete mammoth skeleton. It was discovered by Mr. Spengler between 1930 and 1932 and is 300.000 years old.(36km)

In the quitness of woods is situated the Nordhaeuser dam, the oldest dam in the Harz (built in 1902). It is a nice destination for a hike from Stolberg. (8km)
