Quedlinburg`s intact medieval town layout exhibits more than eight centuries of authentic architecture in a way that is unique as in quality as in quantity. Buildings of all styles and epochs make Quedlinburg to the perfect place to study the development of half-timbering building-techniques and styles throughout the ages. During the tenth and the first half of the eleventh centuries Quedlinburg continued to be the political centre of the Ottonian empire - it was here where the Saxon rulers regularly celebrated Easter and held some of their most important imperial diets. In December 1994, the old town of
Quedlinburg and its castle hill, with the collegiate church were placed under the protection of UNESCO`s World Heritage Programme.(38

In
Panorama Museum Bad Fankenhausen you can see the monumental painiting by Werner Tübke "Frühbürgerliche Revolution in Deutschland" (Early Bourgeois Revolution in Germany, 1983 - 1987, oil on canvas, 14 x 123 metres). Although much time has passed since the completion of the panorama painting - the painting was signed on 16 October 1987 - this painting still inflames passions and provokes controversial debates over the role, place, and values of contemporary art.(33
